President's Message

July 1, 2010

Dear Temple Beth Torah Family Members;

I would like to introduce myself to you as the new President of Temple Beth Torah. Let me begin by saying that I am delighted to be assuming this role, and I look forward to serving as the lay leader of this esteemed and holy congregation.

I grew up in Bayside Queens and my Jewish education started at The Jewish Center of Bayside Hills. I owe thanks to my parents Evy and Mel Zornberg and Irene and Steve Wiener and Rabbi Marc A. Gellman PhD. for their teachings, which helped develop my strong foundation in Judaism.

Our family has lived in Dix Hills since 1994. My family has long been devoted to temple leadership. My wife, Mindy and my daughters Melissa and Amy have served the temple in many capacities. Mindy has served as Sisterhood President. Melissa and Amy were Bnei Mitzvah at Temple Beth Torah. I consider those two of the best days of my life. Melissa and Amy were both confirmed and completed Hebrew High at Temple Beth Torah.

I am both honored and humbled to find myself in this position of President of TBT. Thanks are due to our immediate past president, Jerry Frank for his support and for selecting me to be his Executive Vice-President. His vision, guidance and leadership to this synagogue serves as a model for me to follow. Thanks also to the Board of Trustees and the lay leadership, past and present, for their hard work and their devotion to making this synagogue strong, healthy and vibrant.

We are faced every day with challenges, some of which we can control and others that are out of our hands. Your continued support of TBT will ensure that the house we have built as a community can navigate during these tough times and help as many families that are in need.  We must reverse the alarming trend of Reform Jews not affiliated with a temple community.  I want to make sure that Temple Beth Torah is as important a part of your family as it has been for mine. My goal is to make Temple Beth Torah the best it can be. The Board of Trustees and I can’t do this alone and we need your help.

There are many possibilities for study with our clergy, please take advantage of them. Attend Mishpacha University where you will have the opportunity to study with our amazing and learned clergy. Participate in the Yoga Class, explore Rosh Chodesh, attend an Adult Ed Classes, and If you did not have a Bnei Mitzvah commit to have one. There are many opportunities to volunteer at TBT, from our active Sisterhood and Brotherhood, to our varied committees, so sign up and participate. Please consider donating generously to one of the many funds that are listed in the ARC. Making a commitment to participate in Tzedakha as a family is a rewarding endeavor.

We will start in September to have 6:00 pm Services on Shabbat at least 3 times a month and two 8:00 pm Services each month through the end of 2010. I look forward our praying together during Shabbat.

I am asking all of our Temple Family to be the ambassadors to the community for Temple Beth Torah. I am very proud of the foundation that has been given to us, now let’s build on that foundation and make Temple Beth Torah even stronger. We have all been touched by the Temple Beth Torah. If I can be of any help to you, if I can guide you toward finding a volunteer role that suits you or if you have any questions at all, please feel free to call me. I look forward to hearing from you. My Cell Phone is 516-242-2098 (Business Hours) 516-712-9030 (Personal) Email: RSZ9980@aol.com

Thank You
