Philosophy: David Joshua Berg Nursery School
In the early years of a child’s life, a warm and supportive atmosphere encompassing new and exciting experiences are significant factors in development and growth. The David Joshua Berg Nursery School at Temple Beth Torah combines the best elements of early childhood education with enriching experiences in Jewish living that lead to the formation of a positive self-image and Jewish identity. A staff of caring teachers in an environment equipped with state of the art early childhood equipment provides a setting in which individual development will flourish within a group setting. An outdoor playground center and indoor gym equipment designed specifically for preschoolers afford year round areas for large motor skill development. Selections of programs are offered for two, three, and four-year-old children.
To each family enrolled in The David Joshua Berg Nursery School at Temple Beth Torah, we make a commitment to provide your child with a safe, secure and loving environment. We believe that the early childhood years should be a time of fun, discovery, and encouragement.
Our program includes experiences in early literacy, creative arts, science, math, social studies, cooking, literature, Jewish culture and tradition, games and large muscle activity. The activities we plan are designed to enhance each child’s social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth and to build self-esteem. It is our hope that each child will leave us with a feeling of great self-worth and confidence, and that each family will always remain a part of our temple family.

Open to children born between September 2017 and December 2017, Step-Up Two’s is designed as a “stepping stone” into our Nursery program.
The group will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:15 -11:00 AM, October through December. An adult (mom/dad/nanny) is required to stay in class. Our goal during this initial phase will be to work toward separation. From January through June we will “step-up” to a full separation and the class will meet for 2 hours – 9:15 am – 11:15 am.
The children will have a morning filled with art, music, stories, gym/playground time, free play, snack and of course, socialization under the nurturing direction of our loving Toddler Staff.
Our program for the two-year-old child is designed to ease his/her separation from home. In their first nursery school experience, our youngest children learn the values of sharing, being part of a group and discovering independence in a warm and supportive atmosphere. Play is an important mode of learning with initial experiences in crafts, music, stories and finger play.
The three-year-old child explores the world around him/her and learns to socialize through planned activities and creative play. The first steps are taken in understanding number concepts and reading readiness. Jewish holidays are celebrated through arts and crafts, songs and stories.
Our Pre-K curriculum is designed to maximize the infinite creativity of this age group. Four-year-olds love to try out their own ideas, and we provide them with the materials and encouragement to do so. We explore the community we live in and learn about our place in society. Hands-on science, math, early literacy and whole language experiences enhance this program. The children use Handwriting without Tears and are immersed in a Pre-K curriculum which prepares them for Kindergarten
